If you're wondering "wtf is a byronic hero?" Then I'll give you a quick summary of what I've found of them.
Byronic heroes are essentially a type of anti-hero that are sort of summed up as being 'mad, bad and dangerous to know'
Examples would be:
Captain Wentworth - Persuasion by Jane Austen
Claude Frollo - The Hunchback of Notre Dame by Victor Hugo
Heathcliff - Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë
Rochester - Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë
James Steerforth - David Copperfield by Charles Dickens
Erik/The Phantom - Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux
Blackadder - Blackadder BBC sitcom
V - V For Vendetta
....and many, many more.

I always wondered whether Erik (the Phantom) is a Byronic hero or an anti-hero, I remember having a long winded discussion about this on an internet forum, where they agreed that he was more an anti-hero than a Byronic hero because he doesn't qualify as a 'hero' or something like that.
WHY are the anti-heroes/Byronic heroes always more interesting and awesome than the generic 'I-am-awesome' hero? No idea... but for me at least it's true...
